Army Club was a brand of cigarette distributed by Cavanders Ltd of London that was established in 1775.

Advertising campaigns for this brand adopted the themes of nostalgia of wartime camaraderie and male culture.

In the 1920s these cigarettes were sold in elaborate tins made of pressed copper.

Cavanders was a cigarette company originally based in Manchester. The brand disappeared in 1961, as the company was taken over by the Godfrey Philips cigarette company, whose main factory is now in Mumbai.

I seem like a person who smokes a lot of cigarettes, but in fact, I am the opposite. Because of my weak lungs, I am not really able to smoke much. Do not get me wrong, I enjoy smoking, but it is just too much for my weak lungs. If I can go and smoke more, I would, but it is just not possible. I am not saying that it is a bad thing, however, I need a couple of cigarettes every now and then.

Are you aware of the Cavander Camerascope - which was a cheaply produced stereo card viewer made of enamelled pressed metal sections? Many cigarette brands had picture cards in the packets but Army Club Brand had pairs of stere cards each 2" x 3 1/2" in black and white (and later- colour). An early theme was 'People of Different Lands' - which cpmpliments the nostalgia / Empire brand focus you mention. I can furnish you with a picture of the viewer if you wish. Unlike the other merchandising for Army Club Brand however, it does not display or overtly advertise the brand identity. Unfortunately I do not have any examples of original card pairs.
